Norman Strouse was born outside Olympia, Washington in 1906. A high school graduate, he went to work for the "Seattle Post
Intelligencer," where he advanced to handling the paper's national advertising. In 1949 he began a 40 year association with
the J. Walter Thompson advertising agency, becoming President of the Company in 1955, Chief Executive Officer in 1960, and
Chairman of the Board in 1964. Mr. Strouse was also an avid collector of books and fine printing. He was a major benefactor
of the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as several other libraries. Norman Strouse died
in 1993.
