Abstract:

Contains correspondence, poetry, publications, interviews, clippings, drafts, etc. concerning the career and works of Lenore Kandel. A portion of the material is related to her groundbreaking book of poetry, The Love Book, including galley proofs and the corresponding publicity around it. Includes numerous small press publications of poetry and newspapers in which Kandel is the author or a contributor. Includes poems and correspondence from poets, publishers, and organizations seeking permission to use her works. Correspondents include Allen Ginsberg and an illustrated letter from cartoonist Robert R. Branaman. Also includes material on the Hell's Angels and a photograph of her husband, Billy Fritsch, who was a member. Also includes one audiocassete recording of a poetry performance by Kandel and Diane di Prima.

Lenore Kandel (born January 14, 1932 in New York City; died October 18, 2009 in San Francisco, California) was an American poet, affiliated with the Beat Generation and Hippie counterculture. Her work was performed in the Broadway play, Oh, Calcutta!, and Kandel also performed a poem for the filming of The Last Waltz that was not used in the final cut.
