Abstract:

Recollections of childhood in Italy and New York City; voyage to Calif. via Panama (1852); life in S.F. as shopkeeper, landowner, banker and prominent member of the Italian community; and organizing the Italian-Swiss Colony (1881) at Asti. Also discusses his establishment of the Italian-American Bank in S.F. (1899), the 1906 earthquake and fire (as member of the Relief and Reconstruction Committee) and opposition to Asian immigration.
