Lucile Katheryn Czarnowski was born in Phoenix, Ariz. in 1897 and received her A.B. degree from the University of California,
Berkeley in 1922. Except for a period during which she earned her M.S. degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1931),
she spent her academic teaching career at the University of California, Berkeley (1924-1960). Czarnowski also taught dance
in workshops and institutes, wrote on dance, served in several organizations relating to dance and won several awards.
