history interview with Wesley Johnson and Marian Johnson conducted in 1995; a manuscript copy of Fishing with Jens, a memoirs
by Dave Hamlin pertaining to his recreational outings with Jens Jensen and L.J. Skaggs, with accompanying photographs; correspondence
to the Foundation pertaining to the death and memorial of Mary C. Skaggs; a hand-sewn flag of Africa; and a tributary gold
pan pertaining to the Skaggs' support of Hangtown's Gold Bug Park in Palcerville, Calif.

Mary Cordelia Dee Skaggs was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 1900. Her family emigrated to the United States in 1906
and settled in Ogden, Utah. In 1919 she married L.J. Skaggs, who, along with his brothers, would become one of the nation's
major drug and grocery retailers. The couple eventually settled in Oakland, California. From 1967 until 2012, their L.J.
Skaggs and Mary C. Skaggs Foundation awarded national and international grants in the areas of the arts, history and the environment.
L.J. Skaggs died in 1970. Mary remained active within the Skaggs Foundation until her death in 2009.
