Jonn Howland Rowe was born in Sorrento, Maine on June 10, 1918, and died in Berkeley on May 1, 2004. He received a bachelor's
degree from Brown University, and master's and doctoral degrees from Harvard University. He taught anthropology classes at
U.C. Berkeley from 1948 to 1988, with a special emphasis on Pre-Columbian and Andean topics.
