Black Bart (Charles Bolton). Included also: a letter written to John Hume, his brother, by a friend, John Salmon, from Cold
Springs, Calif., Apr. 28, l850, describing his voyage to California via the Isthmus and experiences mining; and a letter from
John to his sister Mary, written from Placerville, May 24, l851, on an illustrated letter sheet, ("Placerville..."), describing
the town, his law practice, and James's efforts at mining.
