Abstract:
Album of snapshots documenting various activities of Los Angeles County surveyors at work in the desert Southwest between
Hoover Dam and Los Angeles from 1928 to 1929. Images include a few vehicles and other equipment particular to desert surveying.
Surveyors' camps are also depicted. Other topics of snapshots include unidentified petroglyphs and desert landscapes. Identified
surveyors include Bill Saunders, Jack Taylor, Neal Scott, "Pothoff" and "Dex". Album also includes commercial real photo postcards
depicting the progress of construction on Hoover Dam, from early views of the dam's future location to later views of the
dam near its completion in the mid-1930s. Identified locations include the Colorado River, Death Valley and Boulder City.
Other materials (filed in --PIC folder) include a few additional surveying snapshots and construction views; a brochure, Hoover
Dam, published by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1947; and an envelope inscribed with the name Mr. Carl Martin.
