Five account ledgers spanning the time from the founding of the Hibernia Savings and Loan Society in 1859 to just after the1906
San Francisco earthquake. Includes the first volume ever produced (Cash ledger "A") containing the names of the original subscribers
and well-known founders and early officers including John Sullivan, Richard Tobin, Robert J. Tobin, C.D. O'Sullivan, D.J.
O'Callaghan, and Edward Martin, amongst others. The volume shows that the first cash receipts were taken in the day before
the bank was officially incorporated on April 12, 1859.

Hibernia Savings and Loan Society was incorporated April 12, 1859 in San Francisco, California, by a group of Irish businessmen
in order to provide the Irish community with a secure place of deposit for their savings. On August 29, 1864, Hibernia was
re-incorporated as a savings bank. In 1947, Hibernia was reorganized as a stock corporation under the name of The Hibernia
Bank.
