Abstract:

Diaries recording three reconnoitering and punitive expeditions undertaken by Colonel O'Conor, Commandant General of the Nueva Vizcaya frontier and formerly ad interim Governor of Coahuila.
Folder 1. Fragments of a diary, 1772-1773, on an expedition, ordered by Viceroy Bucareli and a war council of April 2, 1772, to examine possible presidio sites and check Indian hostilities. Includes copies of letters exchanged by O'Conor and Jacobo Ugarte y Loyola, then Governor of Coahuila, regarding the Lipan Indians. 10 p.
Folder 2. Diary recording the expedition undertaken by O'Conor as Commandant-Inspector of the Internal Presidios of New Spain, in order to find and punish the hostile Indians in the sierras of Alamo Hueco, La Hacha, Boquilla, and Corral de Piedras. 1774-1775. 38 p.
