Contains 4 letters by Harriet Martineau. The first letter dated October 20, 1832, discusses a tale from her book on economics,
"Illustrations of Political Economy." The second letter, approximately 1844, regards a series of "shilling volumes" about
to be issued by her publisher, Charles Knight, and a discussion of her efforts on behalf of a certain Cahgtreq, young Irish
writer and would-be political activist. The third letter, approximately 1845-1850, is apologizing that she is unable to provide
assistance in securing employment in London. The fourth letter, dated August 13, 1866, concerns the ravages of old age.
