Mary Ann Hiserman earned her B.A. in 1974 from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1980, she became the first wheelchair
user to graduate from U.C. Berkeley's Master of Architecture program. Hiserman served the U.C. Berkeley campus as an architect
and disability rights activist in various capacities until her death in 1996. She also served as an access coordinator for
the Berkeley Unified School District and the City of Berkeley.
