Abstract:

Volume 1: Family snapshot photograph album depicting everyday life of Marcelino "Ninoy" Alcantara and Marcela Alcantara, a Filipino immigrant couple living in San Mateo in the 1940s and 1950s. Also contains photographs documenting Marcelino's service in the U.S. Army's 978th Signal Service Company of the 1st Filipino Infantry Regiment during World War II, including his training at Camp Cooke and Camp Kohler. Also includes photographs of Filipino community life in California, images of Alcantara family and/or friends taken in the Philippines, and a few studio portraits. Volume 2: Family photograph album of Mr. and Mrs. Jose Radan (Mrs. Radan was the daughter of Marcelino and Marcela Alcantara), documenting their everyday life and leisure activities in San Mateo and elsewhere during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
