Abstract:
Two bound pocket-sized journals dated 1883 and 1884. The earlier journal, titled, "Webb, Road Book, 1883," contains various
handwritten entries for personal expenses, accounts, a listing of members of a Hook and Ladder Company, and other miscellaneous
information. The later journal, titled "Frank Webb, Poll taxes, 1884", contains an alphabetical index with payment notes entered
by last name, presumably for citizens of Walnut Creek, California.

Franklin Webb was born in Maine in 1833. He sailed to California in July, 1858 aboard the "Wandering Jew" via Cape Horn. By
the autumn of 1859, Webb was farming ninety acres in Walnut Creek, California. His ranch was located by Creekside Drive and
Near Court. In 1891, he sold part of his property to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company. Webb married Phoebe Dickinson
in 1864 and was the father of seven children. He died in Walnut Creek in April, 1908.
