Abstract:
Contains five items sent to Fray José Guilez, procurator of the Calfornia missions. One item is a receipt for 1340.5 pesos
received from "Juan Martiarena" [i.e. Fray José Manuel Martiarena], dated Feb. 17, 1809 and signed by ship captain, Juan José
Zertajas. One item is a handwritten note (1 p.) with 1809 and 1810 dates listing documents that have been sent to Guilez
[not present in this collection]. Two items are from Fray José Bernardo Sanchez, architect of the missions. One of those appears
to be a handwritten copy of a note originally sent to Fray José Viñals in 1808 complaining about the quality of materials
being sent to build Mission San Diego and requesting that only good materials be sent in the future. The other is a request
by Sanchez to pay a bill, circa 1808. The fifth item is a folded paper that was used as an envelope and addressed to Guilez
at the College of San Fernando in Mexico City.
