Title:
Fred Iltis collection of photographs of Mexico and other subjects
Creator/Contributor:
Iltis, Fred, 1923-2008, creator
Abstract:
Chiefly includes that portion of Iltis' photograph archive pertaining to his visits to Mexico where he documented the indigenous
and poor inhabitants of various locations, including Michoacán and the Distrito Federal (Mexico City). Includes portraits,
still lifes, street views, and scenes of everyday life depicting people, dwellings, agriculture, markets, ceremonies, and
manual and animal labor, among other subjects. With the exception of a small number of slides depicting insects related to
malaria in Mexico, there is little if any apparent relation of this collection to Iltis' academic career in entomology. Also
includes a small number of slides taken during a 1969 visit to Czechoslovakia, including such locations as Prague, Telč, Tábor,
Terezín and Kladno, as well as the island of Silba. Additions of 2012 include slides, negatives and prints depicting various
subjects, such as Mexico, Iltis' entomology research topics, and various locations in California; as well as notes on photography.
