Abstract:
Consists of letters, U.S. military documents, U.S. government documents, County of Sonoma tax records, family papers and news
clippings of Doctor Frank E. Brower. Of note in the collection is his letter sent from Camp Bidwell (later called Fort Bidwell),
California in 1870. This letter was sent in compliance with a Circular Letter from the Surgeon General and describes in great
detail the situation in Camp Bidwell, which was established in 1865 to protect settlers of Sunrise Valley, Modoc County from
marauding Indians.

Dr. Frank E. Brower (1838-1925) served in the U.S. Army in 1868-1869 as medical director of Hospital Steward. He later served
in the Artillery Division. Following his military career Brower resided in Santa Rosa, California.
