Letters from the director of the health service for the French fleet that was sent to San Juan de Ulúa to enforce payment
of reparations to French nationals in Mexico (the "Pastry War") Two were written to Ferré's wife and daughters, the remainder
addressed to his "son," Henri Moulin, a Parisian lawyer left in charge of the writer's domestic affairs and apparently the
widower of one of Ferré's daughters. The papers deal in part with preparations for the naval expedition, seizure of San Juan
de Ulúa, French-Mexican peace treaty, the civil war in Mexico, political conditions in Portugal, and Anglo-Mexican relations,
but also contain much personal material. Sent from towns or harbors of France and the Gulf of Mexico.
