Creator/Contributor:
Old Los Angeles Company, creator, publisher.
Abstract:
Proposal by The Old Los Angeles Company (originally formed by Albert Ehringer, Robert J. Morris and John P. Wilson) to lease
the development of the historic district then named El Pueblo de Los Angeles State Historic Park, specifically to "restore
and redevelop the Pico-Garnier buildings to the peak of their respective periods". Proposal includes bound typescript volume
containing an account of the principals' earlier restoration projects in Santa Monica, Sacramento, Chico and Colorado City;
details of the proposed restoration process for eight of the Pico-Garnier buildings with suggestions for their future purposes;
and appendices presenting letters of recommendation and financial statements for each of the principals. Proposal also includes
32 photographs depicting buildings that serve as examples of the principals' earlier restorations works -- e.g. Madison Bear
Garden building (Chico) and various buildings in Santa Monica -- and an artist's rendering of a proposed restoration of the
Pico House

"The City of Los Angeles signed an agreement in 1953 with Los Angeles County and the State of California, creating El Pueblo
de Los Angeles State Historic Park; this allowed the state to purchase all of the pueblo's historic buildings; in 1990 the
property was transferred to the city; in 1992 it was made into a separate city dept., with the authority to make policy, and
its name was changed to El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument" -Library of Congress subject authority file.
