Abstract:

Photographs chiefly of Tracy, California and its environs, amassed by Tracy mayor and historian Earle E. Williams. Most of the photographs originate with other families and individuals living in the Tracy region. The collection features persons and scenes from throughout the history of Tracy, as well as from the early development of other local communities such as Tesla, Carnegie, Corral Hollow, Livermore, Banta and San Joaquin City. Prominent throughout the collection is the family of Tracy residents Frank and Anna ("Sena") Housken, whose photographs, both loose and compiled in albums, constitute the bulk of the collection. Featured are early agricultural scenes of the region (plows, agricultural machinery, dairy farming), schools, saloons, hotels, parades and other events, locomotives, various San Joaquin County landscapes, industrial plants, the Tesla Coal Mines, family groups, carnivals, gardens, vacation scenes and group portraits of several local organizations, especially pioneer societies.
