Note:

Emily Brist Ketchum was born in Buffalo, New York on August 19, 1834. She attended Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut, and married Hubert Howe Bancroft (1832-1918) on October 27, 1859 in Buffalo. She had one daughter, Kate Bancroft Richards (1860-1945), and died in San Francisco, California in December 1869 of complications related to diabetes.
