Edgar Wayburn, a doctor by training, was president of the Sierra Club and successful leader of various regional and national
conservation efforts. He was instrumental in establishing the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Alaska National Interest
Lands Conservation Act, Redwood National Park and the Point Reyes National Seashore. He was awarded the Albert Schweitzer
Prize for Humanitarianism in 1995 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1999.
