Diaries: v. 1-2 (1889-1891); v. 3 (Oct. 1891-Mar. 1892) covering studies at Stanford University; v. 4 (May-Sept. 1898) covering
journey from San Francisco to China with Professor John Fryer (with stops at Honolulu and various places in Japan) and teaching
at Chinese Polytechnic Institute in Shanghai; v. 5 (July 1899-June 1900) narrating travels in Korea, Japan and other parts
of China and experiences teaching; v. 6 (Mar.-Sept. 1901) covering travel and studies in Europe, return to U.S., and train
journey to California; a summary of his experiences during the Boxer Rebellion in China (recorded from memory, since the diary
for the period was lost).
