Abstract:
Diary (original in German; Mar. 20, 1849 - Mar. 10, 1850) of overland journey to California. Nusbaumer started in company
with a group of Germans (the German California Mining Company) and ended with one of the small groups from Captain Hunt's
wagon train which came through Death Valley. Additional notes and accounts to Dec. 31, 1850. With this: a resume, also in
German and incomplete. Various copies available: photocopy of original holograph manuscript (1948) transcription made by Max
E. Knight from photocopy (1948); and typed copy of translation made (1933) by Bertha Nusbaumer Whitmore for her son (Welles
Whitmore, Jr.) with title: Adventures of a trip to the Gold fields of California, May 20, 1849 to June 19, 1850, from the
diary of Louis Nusbaumer.
