Abstract:
Papers pertaining to the inventions of E.O.C. Ord II. Including patents, original drawings and diagrams, advertising material
and instructions on use of the "Gold-Pan-Batea", an improved Gold Pan leading to the formation of the California Gold Pan
Company and its daughter company Household Utilities Manufacturing Company. Includes correspondence and business papers of
mine holdings and interests in and around California, Arizona, Utah and Mexico. There are two diaries, one from a prospecting
trip to Inyo County, California in 1908-1909 and one in 1910 to Zero Mine in Arizona. There is an account describing to Ord,
a trip in 1910 to a cave in Mexico searching for treasure left by Missionaries. Includes map of Bradshaw Fissure drawn by
Ord

Edward Otho Cresap Ord II was born at Benicia Barracks, California on November 9, 1858, the son of Civil War General Edward
Otho Cresap Ord. In 1876, Ord was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy, but withdrew in a year. In 1879, he was appointed second
lieutenant in the 22nd Infantry, U.S. Army. Ord served in the military on and off throughout the U.S. and abroad until 1918
when he retired to California. Ord died at Eagle Rock, California, April 4, 1923.
