Abstract:
Letters written from Sierra, Kern, and Tuolumne Counties to his family in the East, concerning conditions and life in California
mining country and various jobs he held. Letter of l882 from Tuolumne speaks of poor prospects in mining due to drought and
a series of lawsuits initiated by farmers in valley who objected to pollution of streams and farmland from mine tailings,
comments on local agriculture, and describes Yosemite and Lake Tahoe.
