Contains mostly correspondence of Carmelo Zito, in English and Italian, with some related materials such as Italian language newspapers, clippings, and a few snapshots. One letter of note is on Prisoner of War letterhead stationery from Antonio DeLeoni being held at Scottsbluff Camp in Nebraska dated January 15, 1943 and addressed to Carmelo Zito's newspaper, Il Corriere del Popolo. Written in Italian, it is possibly a letter to the editor. Also includes 42 pages of Zito's testimony before the the Assembly Fact Finding Committee on Un-American activities in California, chaired by Jack B. Tenney, held at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco on May 25, 1942.

Carmelo Zito (August 13, 1899-June 9, 1980) was born in Oppido Mamertina, Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1923 becoming a citizen on November 9, 1938. Zito was an outspoken Italian American who was the editor and publisher of Il Corriere del Popolo, an Italian-language newspaper in San Francisco, California, from 1935 through 1966. He was a prominent activist in the Italian anti-fascist movement in the United States.
