Abstract:
Primarily views of Samoa and the Sandwich Islands. Includes 7 watercolor portraits of indigenous peoples by G.E. Cooke (most
signed and and dated 1847-1850), aquatints of views by [T. or J.?] Weld (ca. 1850-1856), an engraving of the Sandwich Islands,
and a lithograph by Le Breton entitled Vue de San Francisco [a smaller variant of the view published as: San Francisco, vue
prise d'un point eleve du cote Sud.]
Engravings of the Sandwich Islands, many apparently removed from editions of Cook's voyages. Also, many engravings relating
to Tahiti and native costume (many bearing names of J. Grasset St. Sauveur and J. Laroque.) Three small (gouache?) paintings
of the Hawaiian islands are also present - two of which relate to "Missionary Sisters" at Lahaina, 1865.
