Abstract:

Photograph albums and scrapbooks document the early life and family Barbara Zelinsky up to her honeymoon with Robert Zelinsky. Early albums show Barbara's parents, Rachel Rutherford Hortop and Leopold Levy, and other family (especially Hortop). These early views include the town of Rutherford and other Napa County views. Pictures from family vacations and holidays (July 4th, Christmas) show other locations such as Lake Tahoe, the Russian River, Capitola, Ben Lomond, and non-California views such as Leadville, Tijuana, etc. Later albums show Barbara's childhood, and student life at UC Berkeley (class of '39). Later album documents Barbara and Robert Zelinksky's honeymoon in 1942. Scrapbook contains many invitations, programs, and clippings relating to social events in the late 1930's. One album (disbound by library) contains only portraits (originals and copy prints) by Arnold Genthe, and it is not apparent whether these are friends of Zelinsky or whether the portraits were collected by her.
