Abstract:
Includes studio portraits of A.B. Wilson, his immediate family (wife Vesta Ball Wilson, sons Harold Wilson, Bruce Wilson and
Rolland Wilson, daughter Jean Wilson), other Wilson and Ball family members, and a few views of storefronts of Wilson's shops
in Winters and Sonora; numerous studio portraits of unidentified persons; multiple generations of Wilson family snapshots;
many views of Martinez and other Contra Costa County locations; many views of Sonora and a few of Truckee (all in PIC boxes
1-2). Photograph albums include chiefly nineteenth century cabinet card, carte de visite and tintype portraits of unidentified
persons (vols. 1-3), snapshots pertaining to Rolland Wilson's student years (vol. 4) and professional scenes of agriculture
in the Diablo Valley region of Contra Costa County (vol. 5). Cased ambrotype portraits (CASE box) depict unidentified persons.
Glass lantern slides (LAN box) depict views of Diablo Valley and a fountain with a statue of Hercules and Antaeus in Aranjuez,
Spain. Nitrate negatives (NNEG) depict aerial views of industrial complexes, possibly in Richmond. Also includes a small amount
of personal papers, ephemera, published pamphlets, and printed material pertaining to Wilson's campaign for Contra Costa County
justice of the peace in 1934 (all in PIC box 3).

Alvin Brice Wilson: born in 1870 in Ohio; worked as a photographer, jeweler and optician, first in Winters, then in Sonora,
Calif.; by the late 1890s or early 20th century he had relocated to the Bay Area town of Martinez, where he continued his
previous professional practices and later in the 1930s and 1940s served as a justice of the peace; died in 1965. Referred
to self in various professional and political contexts as A.B. Wilson.
