Two items attached to an album page, one a note signed by "A Ward," and the other a "Free and unsolicited pass" for an Artemus
Ward show. Written below the note, on the album page, says that it was an "order written by Charles Farrer Browne (Artemus
Ward) in my private room...a few days only before his death," and is signed H.F. Below the pass, it describes the pass as
being "designed and executed in Graphotype by Chas. Farrer Browne (Artemus Ward.) On the back of the album page, "Mormons
Salt Lake City" is written, matching the pass.

Charles Farrar Browne was born in Waterford, Maine on April 26, 1834. Browe, pen name of Artemus Ward, was most famous for
his humor writing, and is noted as an inspiration for Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) while performing in Virginia City, Nevada,
and as one of Abraham Lincoln's favorite humorists. In 1866 Browne traveled in England, where he was extremely popular; while
there he contracted tuberculosis and died on March 6, 1867. He was first buried in London, but his remains were soon moved
to the town of his birth.
