Abstract:
Photographs of various African-American authors taken during their visits to the University of California, Berkeley, including
Gwendolyn Brooks, James Baldwin, Alice Walker, Al Young, Daphne Muse, Mary Helen Washington, and Huey Newton. Also pictured
are professors Barbara Christian, Paule Marshall and Erskine Peters, and librarian Phyllis Bischof. Among the events depicted
are a 1984 exhibit of Afro-Americana held by the U.C. Berkeley Library and readings and receptions related to the exhibit.
Collection also includes commercial portraits of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Toni Morrison, and a snapshot of Langston Hughes
and friends.
