Title:
Acevedo family records, 1610-1916 (bulk 1760-1808)
Abstract:
This collection consists of correspondence, financial and legal documents from the years 1610 through 1916. Most of the letters,
account books, invoices and documents pertain to business dealings, such as the loaning of money, payment of debts or the
day-to-day management of the haciendas owned by the Acevedo family of Querétaro, Mexico. Capitán Pedro Acevedo y Calderón
(son of Capitán Pedro García Acevedo and Ana Phelipe Calderón) generates the most business correspondence. The majority of
his letters are reports from the Hacienda de Bravo's overseer, Ignacio Montañes. Intra-family correspondence is filed under
the name of the recipient(s). The family's extensive land holdings, especially the Hacienda de Bravo, are documented in wills
and testaments, and legal proceedings. There are also hand-drawn maps depicting the boundaries of the different sections of
the haciendas in the area. There are also military enlistment records for soldiers.
