Abstract:

Include diaries of Oliver Allen, 1853-1880, concerning life in Point Reyes and Petaluma, construction of saw mills at Bolinas, the Pioneer Paper Mill at Daniel's Creek, and dairying in Marin County; and papers of his son, Charles D. Allen, including diaries, 1854-1920, re life in the Bay Area, ranching in Napa, with mention of the use of Chinese and Japanese laborers and of the San Francisco earthquake and fire in 1906; accounts for dried fruits and grains; poll list for election in Napa County, 1894 Nov. 6; letter from D. W. Leaver, 1864 Mar. 20, describing his travels by horse form San Francisco to Tulare County, and work in a steam mill there; stock certificates from various mining companies in California and Nevada; autograph book; biographical and genealogical information on the two men and on the family.
