Ann Freeman was born in Chicago in 1941. She received her B.A. from Smith College in 1963, her M.A. from the University of
Wisconsin, Madison in 1965, and her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley in 1979. Freeman
participated in the Comparative Literature Women's Caucus while at Berkeley. She was a professor of English at the College
of San Mateo from 1985-2010.
