Abstract:

The collection consists of a family Jewish Bible, printed and published by Isaac Leeser in 1859. The end pages of the Bible contain handwritten genealogical notes for many members of the Goldstein and Ackerman families from the 1850s - 1960s.

Emanuel L. Goldstein was born in Germany in 1820. He emigrated to the United States in 1833 and eventually settled in San Francisco. One of his daughters, Tillie, born in 1859, married Isidor S. Ackerman. Another of Emanuel's daughters, Becky, married a cousin of Isidor's: I. H. (Isadore H.) Ackerman.
