company at Folsom and Second Streets in San Francisco shortly after the 1906 earthquake and fire. Includes descriptions of
the new construction features being employed to prevent future fires, references to two photographs of the new buildings,
and his personal observations of eathquakes in general and the city of San Francisco. Includes the two photographic prints
referenced in the account (b&w, 7.5 x 9.5 in., mounted on linen album leaves) showing the manufacturing facility and offices
being rebuilt.

A. Schilling & Company was an American foodstuffs company founded in San Francisco, California, in 1881 by August Schilling
and George F. Volkmann, both natives of Bremen, Germany. It dealt in coffee, tea, baking powder, extracts, and spices and
was merged into McCormick & Company in 1946.
