Anna S. Espenschade was born in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania on March 4, 1903. She received a B.A. degree from Goucher College
in 1924, and an M.S. degree from Wellesley College in 1926. In 1928, she accepted the position of assistant supervisor of
Physical Education at the University of California, Berkeley. She received a Ph. D. in Psychology in 1939. Espenschade taught
and did research at Berkeley until 1968. She was an expert in the evaluation of motor performance in children and adolescents,
and her work earned her many national awards. She died on November 27, 1998 in Laguna Hills, California.
