ATA (Alliance for Technology Access), originally known as the NSEA (National Special Education Alliance), began in 1987 as
a collaborative effort between the DCCG (Disabled Children's Computer Group) and Apple Computer. The organization was established
to provide children with disabilities with computers and to design computer technology for those with disabilities. The NSEA
was re-named the Foundation for Technology Access when it became a nonprofit organization in 1989. As of 1994, organization
has been operating under the name Alliance for Technology Access.
