Contains writings by Pinto, chiefly manuscript and typescript autobiographical accounts and related correspondence in both
English and Portuguese, concerning his experiences as a Portugese immigrant and world traveler. Includes portions of his "Episodes
of an immigrant in the USA," and other reminiscences and journals from his travels to Africa, Australia, and Tasmania. Also
includes papers concerning a patent for an oil extractor, awards and certificates, along with some personal correspondence,
miscellaneous notes, and printed ephemera.

Arthur Ferreira Pinto was born in Verdamilho, Portugal and immigrated to the U.S. in 1920, settling in Oakland, Calif. Following
a variety of warehouse and mill jobs in Sacramento and Oakland, he found work as a chemist for the state of Calif. Pinto eventually
became a U.S. citizen, obtained his high school education and a B.A. from the University of Calif. in 1942, and spent many
of his later years traveling abroad.
