Abstract:

A record of the ceremonial function held under the auspices of the University of Mexico on July 24, 1803, in honor of the first visit paid the University by Viceroy Iturrigaray and his wife, Doña María Inés Jáuregui y Aróstegui. Contains a description of the arrangements for the ceremony, the Latin texts and Spanish translations of the dedicatory tribute to Iturrigary, an outline of the debate on the main agenda topic, i.e., monarchical government, the laudatory orations of González Lastiri, monitor of the debate, and Chairman Juan Nicolás de Larraguiti, and a Spanish ode honoring Doña María Inés. Most of this material was printed in a publication of the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas of the University of Mexico in 1943. It describes the present item as the original report.
