Abstract:
Recollections concerning the pirate Hippolyte Bouchard; early governorships and revolts; experiences as a soldier in Monterey;
participation in the 1827 expedition with Santiago Argüello north of Sonoma; American occupation in southern California, including
Flores revolt, the battle of La Natividad, encounters with and capture by Frémont; gold mining around Mokelumne River. Clipping
concerning Frémont pasted in on verso of p. 75.
With this as v. 2 (portfolio): two original documents, directed to Pico by Anastasio Carrillo, 1846, communicating a decree
and notifying of the appointment of a juez de campo for the ranches in the vicinity of San Luis Obispo, in an effort to regularize
trade in cattle and hides.
