Abstract:

One-third of this folder is correspondence relating to the Cemetery Protective Association in San Francisco and its efforts to defeat local Proposition 50; one-third is material reflecting Fenton's other personal and professional affairs, including material relating to rentals and legal cases; and one-third is correspondence about possible political appointments, including correspondence with Assemblyman James J. Ryan. Receipts dating from 1906 reflect Fenton's purchase of real estate from Edward O'Day.

Frank Lee Fenton was born in San Francisco, studied law under Morris M. Estee, and later practiced in the law office of Garret McEnerney. He was secretary of the Cemetery Protective Association in San Francisco, formed in September 1914 to counter efforts to relocate cemeteries outside of San Francisco, specifically Proposition 50. (A group of San Francisco women had already organized, in late January 1913, the Cemetery Protective Organization, to similar ends.) Proposition 50 was defeated in the Nov. 3, 1914 election. Fenton married Pearl Laisy and they had three children. Frank Fenton died in 1941.
