Note:

Ansel Adams was born in San Francisco, CA on February 20, 1902. After dismissal from several private schools, Adams was educated by tutors until his formal education ended in 1917. He taught himself piano at age 12 and planned a career in music, but he also had developed an interest in photography, a field which dominated the rest of his life as he became one of the world's renowned photographers. His work was known for its clarity and depth, and for its sensitivity to the natural environment. Adams served on the Sierra Club Board of Directors for many years. He died in Monterey, CA on April 22, 1984.
Dave Brubeck was born in Concord, CA on December 6, 1920. Intending to work on his father's ranch, Brubeck began studying veterinary science at the College of the Pacific but found himself interested in music instead, and became a renowned jazz pianist, arranger, and composer. He became particularly adept at playing in odd time signatures, his most well known piece in this regard being the 1961 hit "Take Five." Brubeck worked in the classical idiom as well. As of 2011 he still performs on a limited basis.
Chris Brubeck, son of Dave Brubeck, was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 19, 1952, and with his brothers Darius and Dan have often performed together, and with their father. He has gained renown as a jazz musican and composer, and like his father has worked in the classical idiom as well.
"Ansel Adams: America" is a classical music piece written by Dave and Chris Brubeck evoking the spirit of Ansel Adams' photography while accompanied by images of it. The composers kept in mind that Adams had intended a musical career before immersing himself in photography. "Ansel Adams: America" was performed at several concert halls across the United States during 2009-2010.
