Shew is not known to have made mammoth plate photographs. He may have acted in partnership with or employed another photographer.
Carleton Watkins and C.L. Weed are two likely creators, and attributions to Eadweard Muybridge, Nathan Klain, and Oscar Foss
are possible if the date is closer to 1870.
Vantage point is similar to that of C.E. Watkins mammoth panoramas taken in 1864 and ca. 1874.
