Note:
Samuel Martin was the son of Samuel Henry Martin whose father Samuel Martin (died 1885) established the family ranch in Solano
county and built the family home in 1861. The house was built of local Tufa stone and later named "Stonedene" by Carrie Martin,
Samuel Henry Martin's wife. Carrie Martin inherited the Cordelia Hotel and the family moved from Stonedene to live in the
hotel until Samuel Henry Martin's death in 1924. Stonedene stood empty during those years. In 1929, Samuel Martin (son of
Samuel Henry Martin) set about renovating the house, hiring Julia Morgan to enlarge and beautify it. Unfortunately, the renovation
cost nearly $50,000 and the depression squeezed the Martin Ranch's profits and the renovation could not be completed. Samuel
Martin died in 1962 and most of the ranch land was sold. In 1974, the house itself was sold to the Curry family and Stonedene
placed on the National Register of Historic Places (#77000349) in 1977.
