Note:
Charles Fayette Lott was born in Pemberton, NJ on July 1, 1824. After living in Quincy, IL and St. Louis, he graduated from
St. Louis University in 1846. Lott subsequently studied law, and was admitted to the Missouri state bar in 1848. The following
year he made the overland trek to California, engaged briefly in mining, then held various public offices. Lott was elected
to the California State Senate in 1851, and after serving two terms entered into private law practice with Judge Warren T.
Sexton, eventually settling in Oroville. Elected judge of the second judicial district in 1869, Lott continued to practice
law until his death in 1918.
