California pioneer, surveyor. Founded Weaverville and Shasta Wagon Road Company which built the first wagon road into Trinity
County, completed in 1858. He was U.S. Deputy Surveyor and Trinity County surveyor. He was succeeded in the land business
and as U.S. Deputy Surveyor and Trinity County surveyor by his son "Hank."
