Note:
David Warren Ryder (1892-1975) was a San Francisco author, journalist, and publicist. After graduation from Stanford University
in 1912, Ryder taught himself law and practiced until 1920. He then turned to writing, and at various times was a special
correspondent or representative for several newspapers and periodicals in the United States and in England. Ryder was also
the publicity director for the Industrial Association of San Francisco, and handled public relations and advertising for the
Southern Pacific Railroad and the American Lines Steamship Company. In 1942, he was sentenced to a term in federal prison
as an unregistered Japanese agent, based on his having accepted funds from the Japanese Committee on Trade and Information
for bulk purchases of his monthly pamphlet "Far Eastern Affairs." His daughter, Margaret Ryder Sanborn, followed in her father's
footsteps and became a history writer.
