Scope and Contents

Microfilm reels of British Admiralty records, including records of the department of state relating to internal affairs of Great Britain, the board of trade, and wrecks and collisions of British vessels. Additional handwritten notes on the microfilm reel contents available in box 10.

Reel 1: Admiralty correspondence on damage suits against Cunard arising out of the loss of the Lusitania, government documents regarding vessel navigation and instructions, legal documents and pleading related to the suit, newspaper clippings, and correspondence and memoranda prepared by the attorneys.

Reel 2: "Records and correspondence relating to preventing young Belgians from getting travel permits to Holland to might render assistance to the enemy if they return to Belgium" and documents discussing the armament or lack thereof on the Lusitania, German government statements about the torpedoing, Spanish reports, and newspaper clippings on the Lusitania.

Reel 3: "Official Deposition of Crew Members," "Interrogation of the Crew," "Arms and Ammunition," and "German Allegiance" documentation related to the Lusitania.

Reel 4: Admiralty records 116, parts 1, 2, and 3: Documents about the sinking of the Lusitania, correspondence, sworn witness testimonies.

Reel 5: Records of the Department of State relating to the internal affairs of Great Britain, materials related to merchant vessels, disabled, wrecked, and stranded vessels, collisions and salvage. Also includes a crew list from the Lusitania and other materials related to the whereabouts and status of passengers.

Reel 6: Contents include: Stahl to Roberts, diary of three submarines, and war diaries of German vessels, 1917-1918, including maps, charts, and tables from the Kriegsarchiv der Marine.

Reel 7: Includes Frost affidavits, Stahl affidavits, manifests, reactions in the Swiss press, survivor lists, condolences, telegrams and documents from organizations relating to the sinking of the Lusitania.

Reel 8: "Bauer's diary, submarine half flotilla," and "German Naval High Command 1st Submarine Flotilla War Diary of Command," from the Krisgsarchiv der Marine.

Reel 9: Diplomatic correspondence on the Lusitania, from the Office of Naval Intelligence, London, and German materials from the Krisgsarchiv der Marine, as well as navigational charts of the Spanish and French coastlines.

Reel 10: Includes documentation on maritime Law, German official explanations of the Lusitania sinking, including government documents and parliamentary court proceedings about the sinking.

Reel 11: Contains Schwieger war diary, 1915-1916, of the 3rd U-boat flotilla of the German Naval High Command from the Krisgsarchiv der Marine, navigational charts of the English Channel and the North Sea, and multiple diaries from various U-boats U-20 and U-21.

Reel 12-13: U-boat reports from the German Naval High command (Uberkommando der Krisgsarchiv der Marine) government documents, maps, and navigation charts, 1941-1943.
